Church History

Wynter’s Acres S.D.A. Church started in 1999, out of a need to establish a church in the community of Wynter’s Pen. Two (2) bible workers, Sisters Clunie and Elliston were sent to canvass the area. After about two (2) months of canvassing the bible workers and the then first elder from Irish Pen SDA Church, Lascelle Davis, asked the Baghaloos to start a branch Sabbath School in the garage/yard of a community member, Patricia Silpot, who is now a member of the church.

Workers continued to work and the numbers attending the Branch Sabbath School grew to 25 persons from 12 persons in 3 weeks. At the beginning they had morning services only, but were then extended to a complete days program out of the desire of the members attending. In 1999, Elder Lascelle Davis started a crusade, namely, “Pentecost 99”, at a different location from the Branch Sabbath School, where the church stands today. From this endeavour, 11 of the Branch Sabbath School members were baptized, and as the Crusade progresses for 6 more weeks, more persons gave their lives to God.

In 2000, this site became one of the down link sites in Spanish Town of the “Behold He Cometh 2000 Crusade”, the speaker was Evangelist Fitz Henry. From the effort of this Crusade many more persons were added the church (company) by way of baptism and others came from surrounding churches such as: Sydenham, St. John, Corletts Road, Villmore, Family of God and others. They enjoyed the fellowship and the lively and spirit filled services, they refused to go back to their home churches. After the crusades, the tent was changed as the crusade tent was in demand by the Conference to host other crusades.

There were quite a number of changes in the size and style of tents, one was called the “glass house”, (it was transparent plastic). While under one of these tents, Pastor Ivor Harry and Elder Lascelle Davis started to enquire about the ownership and possibility of the sale of the land. This was successful, and a church building was constructed on the said lot, 4 Parkway Plaza, Golden Acres Spanish Town. Hence the name Wynters Acres; a combination of Wynter’s Pen and Golden Acres. On December 3, 2000, Dr. Patrick Allen, the then President of Central Jamaica Conference, and now President of West Indies Union, accompanied by other officials from the Conference, namely Pastor Everet Brown and Pastor Levi Johnson, officially organized the Wynter’s Acres S.D.A. Church. And by God’s grace we have been growing from …..strength to strength.
